Kamil Muslim College, Ba is one of the 30 finalists in the Zayed Sustainability Prize Competition 2023 chosen from East Asia Pacifc region. The competition in the 14th year would be represented by the Committee Chairman Mr Rinal Prasad(Teacher), Aqeelah Ali(Student) and NawailaAli(Student). Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) is held from January 14-19, 2023, and the 2023 Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards Ceremony on January 16, 2023, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.

 

The proposed project for 2023 considers the impacts of climate change on the livelihoods in Valele, Ba. The student team wishes to make kamil a self-sustaining institution with full time water and energy supply for students. The project is based on themes such as “Caring for bees” and “Fish and Eggs Saves Lives” with “Copy Left” ideas to be showcased once the Kamil Muslim College becomes the winner.

 

The Project proposal that was written had four key components.

Energy: Installation of 25KW array of solar panel on the roof of our building which will power the School.       The proposed project is for both on-grid and off-grid. The proposed project also inculcates the development of a biogas digester for production of biogas for cooking at school.

Water: Installation of water tanks and water purifier to be connected to the schools water supply and fish farm

Food: Expansion of current miniature Bee-hive farm, fish farm and installation of poultry shed above fish pond

Health: Supply of clean water for students and regular supply of home grown fish. The school will also have a small nursing station equipment’s to provide first-aid in emergencies and checkups every 6 months for students and teachers.
